Electrical and Software Design Engineer


An excellent opportunity for a dynamic and enthusiastic engineer to join a growing Engineering team at iotaSciences. iotaSciences is a young biotech spin-out company of the University of Oxford. We are currently launching a system for isolating and culturing single-cells based on the company's innovative fluid manipulation technology. As an Electrical Design Engineer, this role would have a particular focus on:

  • Electrical prototyping, PCB design and layout
  • Microcontroller programming (C/C++)
  • Windows app creation
  • User interface design

However, being part of a new start-up company means that the full product development, launch and support will be handled as a team and all engineers will be expected to have a good understanding of the full system. The flexibility to work on all aspects of the engineering process in essential.

New members of the team should have a strong interest in design, manufacture and product development and be able to pick up new skills quickly. Further examples of useful skills include:

  • Product design for low volume manufacture, both mechanical and electrical
  • Basic knowledge of EMI, ESD, etc
  • Use of MCAD and ECAD
  • Software development
  • Machine assembly and testing
  • UI programming
  • Basic understanding of fluid dynamics
  • Basic understanding of cell biology
  • Working with users to further user centered design

The position may include traveling to represent the company within/outside the UK from time to time.

Previous experience in these areas and others is desirable, but not essential. iotaSciences welcomes applications from both, graduates and experienced engineers (or related disciplines/experience).

Mechanical Design Engineer


An excellent opportunity for a dynamic and enthusiastic engineer to join a growing Engineering team at iotaSciences. iotaSciences is a young biotech spin-out company of the University of Oxford. We are currently launching a system for isolating and culturing single-cells based on the company's innovative fluid manipulation technology. As a Mechanical Design Engineer, this role would have a particular focus on:

  • Product design, DFM and DFA
  • Compliance testing and declaration documentation (CE, FCC, RoHS, WEEE, etc.)
  • Manufacturing management

However, being part of a new start-up company means that the full product development, launch and support will be handled as a team and all engineers will be expected to have a good understanding of the full system. The flexibility to work on all aspects of the engineering process in essential.

New members of the team should have a strong interest in design, manufacture and product development and be able to pick up new skills quickly. Further examples of useful skills include:

Product Engineer


An excellent opportunity for a dynamic and enthusiastic engineer to join a growing Engineering team at iotaSciences. iotaSciences is a young biotech spin-out company of the University of Oxford. We are currently launching a system for isolating and culturing single-cells based on the company's innovative fluid manipulation technology. As a Product Engineer, this role would have a particular focus on:

  • Building units and quality control
  • Management of consumables supply
  • Product testing
  • Early access user training and support (international travel)
  • Working with users on their specific requirements

However, being part of a new start-up company means that the full product development, launch and support will be handled as a team and all engineers will be expected to have a good understanding of the full system. The flexibility to work on all aspects of the engineering process in essential.

New members of the team should have a strong interest in design, manufacture and product development and be able to pick up new skills quickly. Further examples of useful skills include:

  • Machine assembly and testing
  • Basic coding for the automation of robotic processes
  • Inventory management
  • Basic understanding of fluid mechanics
