Fields Applications Scientist/Research Scientist


An excellent opportunity for a dynamic and enthusiastic biologist to join a growing team at iotaSciences. iotaSciences’ fluid-shaping technology and related first commercial product – the isoCell – are the first of its kind world-wide and offer unique capabilities to the life sciences. The isoCell is a revolutionary benchtop-system that will allow customers to accelerate the cloning of single cells, including stem cells.

Job description

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join a multidisciplinary and highly dynamic company as Research Scientist/Fields Applications Scientist.

If you wish to bring new products to market, drive and support the adoption of technology in the field, develop and research new application areas for a platform technology, and have a hands-on mentality, then this offer might be for you.

The successful candidate will provide technical support for sophisticated applications, diagnose and troubleshoot the company’s instruments, support the development and evolution of instruments, and will also support the development of additional applications using the innovative fluid-shaping capabilities developed in iotaSciences. Besides R&D activity, this role has both, pre-sale and post-sale functionality and therefore, will closely interact with the sales as well as product-development teams.

iotaSciences main offices are serviced by a complementary bus from Oxford City Centre - runs ~ 30 minutes. The role is available immediately and the successful applicant can expect competitive remuneration. Job Responsibilities
  • Plan and execute feasibility tests to complement and improve current workflows, as well as support scoping out new applications utilizing iotaSciences’ technology
  • Develop and provide technical training to potential customers/users, as well as support for the isoCell and other instruments utilizing iotaSciences’ fluid-shaping technology
  • Provide support to customers pre- and post-sale
  • Presenting to scientific audiences in academic/industry settings as well as international conferences
  • Participate in the development of products, including supporting materials and validation testing
  • The position entails travelling to represent the company inside/outside the UK from time to tim
Requirements
  • BSc degree in life sciences or related discipline with 5+ years of hands-on experience in molecular-and cell biology/biochemistry lab, 3+ years for applicants with MSc degree
  • Experience in stem cell research
  • Experience in optimising and establishing workflows related to cell biology
  • Strong data analyses and presentation skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel, including international travel
Desirable
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Experience in troubleshooting instrumentation and related applications
  • Strong communications skills, presenting scientific complex matter to layman audiences
  • Experience in customer support

Electrical and Software Design Engineer


An excellent opportunity for a dynamic and enthusiastic engineer to join a growing Engineering team at iotaSciences. iotaSciences is a young biotech spin-out company of the University of Oxford. We are currently launching a system for isolating and culturing single-cells based on the company's innovative fluid manipulation technology. As an Electrical Design Engineer, this role would have a particular focus on:

  • Electrical prototyping, PCB design and layout
  • Microcontroller programming (C/C++)
  • Windows app creation
  • User interface design

However, being part of a new start-up company means that the full product development, launch and support will be handled as a team and all engineers will be expected to have a good understanding of the full system. The flexibility to work on all aspects of the engineering process in essential.

New members of the team should have a strong interest in design, manufacture and product development and be able to pick up new skills quickly. Further examples of useful skills include:

  • Product design for low volume manufacture, both mechanical and electrical
  • Basic knowledge of EMI, ESD, etc
  • Use of MCAD and ECAD
  • Software development
  • Machine assembly and testing
  • UI programming
  • Basic understanding of fluid dynamics
  • Basic understanding of cell biology

  • Product design, DFM and DFA
  • Compliance testing and declaration documentation (CE, FCC, RoHS, WEEE, etc.)
  • Manufacturing management

However, being part of a new start-up company means that the full product development, launch and support will be handled as a team and all engineers will be expected to have a good understanding of the full system. The flexibility to work on all aspects of the engineering process in essential.

New members of the team should have a strong interest in design, manufacture and product development and be able to pick up new skills quickly. Further examples of useful skills include:
